Yes! It’s true! After 10 years of marriage, 4 kids, 3 rentals in 3 different states, we are finally laying down some roots. Right here in Reno. The process started a little over a year ago. After renting our house here in Sparks for over two years, we started thinking that if we were going to end up staying here, we should probably buy a house. So we started looking at houses on Zillow and Movoto and we even walked through a few with realtors. It was this time last year that we walked through this model home for the first time, and pretty much fell in love with it. We started getting excited. We could build a house! A brand new house. We studied floor plans. We carefully looked at lots. We kept looking at other houses to be sure this is what we wanted to do. And then in February we signed the papers. I remember that day was very emotional for me. Almost like, “What have we done?” I blame it on the pregnancy hormones. I was 6 months pregnant with Kate.
Where we were building was 25 minutes away from our rental house. We loved to go down to see the progress. It was always so fun to pull up and see what had been done and what they were working on.

So besides having a baby, this house pretty much occupied all our free time this year. And I mean ALL of it! Dan and I spent countless nights talking about upgrades, looking online, and trying to make decisions about cabinets, floors, tiles, granite, backsplash, carpet, layouts, paint, etc, etc, etc. So many decisions. So overwhelming. And yet so fun at the same time. Sometimes we experienced set backs and frustrations. Like finally deciding on a wood floor only to find out weeks later that the floor we had chosen had been discontinued. But that ended up being a good thing, because I like what we ended up choosing more than what we had initially picked. The builders messed up on our master tub (it was supposed to be curved), and after telling them to just leave it, I’m glad they did. I like it better this way. It just seemed like it was one thing after another. Having a baby in the middle of it all made it kind of tricky too. Dan initially took the week off after Kate was born so he could stay home to help me and we could have a relaxing week. But instead, we ended up using his time off to do some things that needed to be finalized, like picking out our granite slabs for the kitchen. It was a busy time.
But, before we knew it, it was finished! And we love how it all came together. I love the kitchen. I love our floors. I love the fireplace. I love the carpet. I love the paint. We painted the whole house in the same color (Kelly Moore Malibu Beige) except for James’s room. We did his room in Kelly Moore Brilliant Silver, and I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect blue.
We closed on the house on November 4th. We were so excited to move in!
