Utah Weekend

We just got back from a “Guys Ski Weekend” – which means the kids and I tag along too!  No one wants to miss out on all the fun!    Even his parents flew in for the weekend.  The kids love spending time at Molly and Foster’s house.  Here they are with cute little stuffed animals Grandma got them as an early Easter gift.

Then on Monday we headed down to Provo for a few days to spend some time with the Brintons.  We hit up as many of our favorite Provo activities as we could squeeze in.  Trafalga, Café Rio, shopping, BYU bookstore, Brick Oven, BYU basketball game, watching my cousins’ in-door soccer game, etc. So fun! 

And we got to spend an evening with some of our favorite people from our Ohio days . . . . the Storeys!  Man, we’ve missed them!   

They also have two girls and a boy, all about a year younger than our kids.

The Wright Brothers

Annie and Zoe both really wanted to pick famous women for their big biography project, but their teacher, Mrs. Snearly, convinced them to be the Wright brothers by telling them they could do their presentation together.  Of course they were all over that idea, and I have to say, they both make cute little men!  Annie decided to be the older brother, Wilbur Wright, and Zoe was Orville Wright. 

This was to date, the biggest project Annie has had to do so far in her school career.  She had to read a biography book on Wilbur Wright, take extensive notes, and then create a folder which had to include things such as a timeline of Wilbur’s life, a portrait of Wilbur that Annie drew, a collage, a poem, etc.  It took her a few long days to finish the project, even with help from Dan and I.  I said to Dan at one point on the night before it was due, just as we were finishing up, “Well, this is the first of many many school projects we have ahead of us.”

Then tonight at 6:00 in their classroom was the big presentation night.  Each kid had to dress up like their famous person and memorize a speech about their life and when someone came up and pressed their “PLAY” button, they had to recite their speech.  It was a fun night and all the kids did so well.  Leah and James were even into going around and listening to the speeches.  Annie and Zoe did great.  Their speech consisted of them going back and forth telling all about their lives and the great things they accomplished in the history of flight.  They even had some lines they said in unison, which is why they loved doing the presentation as a pair.  They said they ended up giving their speech at least 10 times!  Great job, girls!

Leah’s 6th Birthday

So our little Leah Lou turned 6 yesterday!  She was so excited for her birthday, the sweet girl . . . she would have really loved a birthday party, but it was just a family party this year.  I decided to let Annie stay home from school in the morning so she could go to the Children’s Discovery Museum with us (and so she could skip a field trip I didn’t really want her going to).  But when we arrived at the museum, we discovered it was closed for maintenance.  Bummer!  So we headed over to Chuck E Cheese’s and the kids had fun playing games, trying to earn tickets, and riding the dumb little rides for awhile.  I was sure glad Leah had Annie to pal around with.  Those two are just the best of friends, and Annie really made it a fun morning for Leah.  Then we went home, got Leah’s birthday cupcakes ready, and I took the girls to school for the afternoon.  After school, it was just torture waiting for Daddy to come home to start the party!!  She waited so patiently and luckily he skipped mutual, so we could at least have a little party last night.  Leah requested fried bread for her birthday dinner (a Dan specialty:) so he started right in making that when he got home from work!   

Finally!  Present Time!!  She was so excited to open her presents.  I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.                   

She’s not really sad in the picture above, she’s just trying to copy the expression on Rapunzel’s face.  She’s actually been wanting that doll from The Disney Store for a long time now . . . . Grandma Walton was so sweet to send it to her!  She loves it!  Below – her birthday loot.  Grandma Cole sent her the adorable purse, the striped shirt, and a sketch pad with colored pencils.  She loves everything she got!
