Labor Day Weekend

DSC_0013-12

We had the best Labor Day Weekend!  Jeff and Katherine and kids came up Friday evening and then the rest of my family met us at Tahoe on Saturday (we were just missing the BYU crew!)  There is nothing our kids love more than being with their cousins.  And that makes me really happy:)DSC_0009-8

We put the 3 little boys in the boat thinking they would like it . . . . well, James hated it.  And then the 3 girls somehow just appeared behind their brothers, as if they knew we were going to take a picture or something:) DSC_0005-4DSC_0014-13 DSC_0017-16 DCIM\100GOPRODCIM\100GOPROScreen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.52.35 PM-58Screen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.51.21 PM-57 Screen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.50.28 PM-56

Mmmmm . . . . Nothing Bundt Cake also makes me really happy.DSC_0023-28DSC_0028-33DSC_0032-37DSC_0043-47

On Sunday, we did NOT make the big buffet breakfast we were planning on making after remembering it was Fast Sunday, but we DID make really good crockpot chicken tacos for dinner, Steph and Kath worked on Annie and Leah’s dresses for Ashley’s wedding, and we introduced my family to Cornhole, Kid History and Telephone Charades (funniest words: Steve Erwin, the crocodile hunter and Billy Hill and the Hillbillies).

Then on Monday we hit up the “Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off,” aka The Rib Fest!!  The kids were all so excited to ride some very overly priced carnival rides.  Good thing Grandpa loves to spoil the kids! DSC_0053-65

Poor girl . . . . she was so happy getting on this ride.DSC_0062-74 DSC_0064-76 DSC_0070-80 DSC_0066-78DSC_0077-84

It was a pretty hot day . . . . just squeezed lemonade sounded so good!DSC_0083-88

In line at Bone Daddy’s trying to figure out what to order.  They won 1st place last year, so we thought we’d try their ribs first.DSC_0086-91DSC_0088-93

We found a cool spot in the shade and dug in! DSC_0095-100 DSC_0099-103 DSC_0090-95 DSC_0100-104  DSC_0115-118

Then we got another round of ribs at Back Forty . . . . and it’s a good thing, because they ended up being this year’s winner!DSC_0132-134 DSC_0127-129 DSC_0134-136

They were definitely good ribs.  Even the babies were chowing down!DSC_0128-130

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the weekend!  Thanks for coming to visit you guys!!

A Wonderful Walton Weekend!

We had a great week with Dan’s family here!  With most of us going to Germany at some point this year to visit the Johnsons, we decided to do something more low key for his family’s vacation this summer . . . . a long weekend in Reno at our place was just the thing!  David, Mary, Mike, and Brian actually arrived Sunday night (August 14th) and we had a fun few days with just them.  Brian just got home from his mission a month ago, so it was so fun to see him again!  The rest of the gang (Scott, Elisha, & kids and Chris & Amy) arrived Wednesday night (we were just missing the Johnsons).

Thursday we hit up our local water park.  We’ve never been there before, and we’ve been wanting to go check it out!   It’s not the best water park we’ve been to, but we still had a fun day there!molly&leah  DSC_0353-4 DSC_0346-1

Most of the group (above) . . . . but where’s Mike and Brian?  “Hey guys!  We’re up here!”

The water park has a sand volleyball court, and so we checked out a ball and did some serious playing!jump

That night we got a babysitter for the 5 kiddos and the adults had a fun night out.  We went to BJ’s for a yummy dinner and pizookies for dessert and then hit up the mini golf course.  I hadn’t played mini golf in years . . . . . but it was so much fun!!  It was competitive, but relaxed, with lots of exciting hole in ones!  Mike ended up being the winner, beating Scott by just one stroke.  Fun, fun night. mingolf

Friday was our Tahoe Day!  We loved taking everyone to Sand Harbor and had a fabulous day at the lake.   DSC_0396-33DSC_0404-40DSC_0414-49 DSC_0421-53 DSC_0428-56  DSC_0434-62 DSC_0440-67Screen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.55.10 PM-54 Screen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.55.48 PM-59Screen Shot 2011-09-04 at 10.56.41 PM-60rockjumpinggirls

Saturday was a fun day of just doing stuff around our place.  Grandma and Grandpa came with us to Annie’s early morning soccer game, and then we spent the day shopping at the outlets, riding the Ferris Wheel and getting fudge at Scheel’s, and going to Yogurt Beach.  Then it was home for a delicious BBQ and playing in the backyard.  Grandma armed all the kids with spray bottles so they could attack a very “unsuspecting” Grandpa:)waterfight1DSC_0443-70  DSC_0447-73 DSC_0451-76 DSC_0459-84

And then everyone joined in!!!!DSC_0467-89 DSC_0468-90DSC_0472-94DSC_0484-104DSC_0487-107    Seriously, is David a good sport or what?!?

It was a great weekend!  We played lots of games at night (of course!) and Mike went out and brought us home a ping pong table (these Walton boys love their ping pong).  I played Fireball Island for the first time (they brought it with them from Vancouver) and we were introduced to Telephone Charades (hilarious!!!!) and Kid History (on YouTube).  Brian showed us all his mission pictures one night, and it was just so fun being all together!!  We really need to do this more often, guys!!
