We found ourselves with a free week in June after the Walton family St.George trip was cancelled due to David’s back surgery. So we decided to go up to Vancouver that week instead and spend the time with Dan’s parents. We left Sunday evening at 5 pm, thinking we’d drive half way and spend the night somewhere in Oregon. But Dan was wide awake and feeling great all night long, so he kept on driving, and before I knew it we were pulling up to the Canadian border crossing at 7 am!
We surprised David and Mary by getting there a little earlier than expected. Dan and I slept a couple hours while Grandma entertained the kids, and then we were ready to party! We woke up to them already working on some fresh rhubarb pies . . . . Yum!
Granville Island is one of our favorite places in Vancouver. We love walking around the cute shops, visiting the toy store, wandering around the market, eating lunch, chasing the birds outside, and watching the boats go by. We always try to squeeze in a trip every time we visit.
This corner table in the market has become “our table.” The last few times we’ve come, it’s just been our family and Mary, and we always seem to get this same table! And the place is usually packed. We love it though. It has the best views!!
We walked past all the amazing dessert counters, and Leah begged for some cheesecake. I couldn’t say no to that! She was so happy.
On the way home from Granville Island, we stopped at Queen Elizabeth Park. This place is so gorgeous.
We had the most gorgeous weather while we were there! We took our bikes with us on this trip so we could do this 5 1/2 mile bike ride around the Seawall in Stanley Park. We’ve never done this before, and it was so much fun!! We just rented a little trailer for James and Kate to ride in and we were good to go!
A little stop to see the totem poles.
Just the most scenic views the entire ride!
It was also so fun just hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa at their house!
They have raccoons that come and eat the cherries off their cherry tree. The baby raccoons were pretty cute, and didn’t seem too fazed by Dan taking their pictures.
Kate taking her very first selfie. Haha.
Visiting Grandma at work at Mercana.
A nice evening outside while David told us some family history stories.
And Annie went to town using Grandma’s old craft paints.
Dan and I snuck away one morning to do a session in the Vancouver Temple.
A bike ride with Annie through Watershed.
And teaching James how to ride his bike at Mud Bay.
And Dan took the kids to White Rock one evening to explore and get some ice cream.
Man, what a great week! We had such a great time playing and relaxing. Always so good to spend time there. And to be with Dan’s parents. So glad we went. Vancouver trip: June 23-29, 2014
