Tahoe with the Shafers

John and Kristen and boys drove to our house last night for a visit.  We had a BBQ for dinner, took them to Yogurt Beach, and played Dominion.  Fun night!  Then this morning we left bright and early (8:00) for Sand Harbor, but due to a few stops along the way (donuts and to check out our house) we didn’t get up to the lake until 9:45ish.  And usually that would be totally fine, but because of the hot temperatures (105) in Reno, I think everyone had the same idea as we did.  Cars were lined up and at a dead stop for at least a mile down the road from Sand Harbor.  We knew there was no way we were getting in.  And sure enough, they closed the parking lot just a few cars ahead of us.  So frustrating!  So, we initiated Plan B – Dan called a dentist he works with whose family owns a house in Incline and had mentioned before to Dan that we could use their private beach.  Dan’s friend gave us directions to the beach and the gate code, and our spirits were renewed!  The beach was awesome.  There was hardly anyone there, so we weren’t fighting the crowds, and it was so quiet and peaceful.  It was along this stretch of the lake where all the houses are at least $10 million, and they all have these private docks with their boats and jet skies and other fun toys.  It was fun to pretend that we belonged there.  Haha.  It was definitely a great spot, and made for a fun and relaxing day at the lake!

Kate’s first dip in the lake!  Poor girl, she did not like it very much.  Too cold!  Cole didn’t like it either.  DSC_8717

Kate’s Blessing Day

DSC_8373-25

It was such a special day.  We decided to bless Kate in the Saratoga Ward so we could have all my family there.  My sister, Kristen, (who lives in Folsom) also had her baby blessed today as well.  It was so neat to have the little cousins be blessed on the same day.  Dan gave Kate a beautiful blessing.  One thing that stood out to me in the blessing was that she would have a life filled with charity.  She has the sweetest little spirit and I just know this will be true for her.  In the circle was Dan, my dad, my grandpa, my 3 uncles (Russ, Allen, and Mike), my cousin Christopher, my brothers-in-law Brigham and John, and my brother Jeff.  All amazing men who I love and admire.  As I watched them form a circle around Kate I couldn’t help but be filled with emotion and gratitude for my family.  I’m so thankful Kate will grow up with such a strong support system in her extended families, and be surrounded by such great examples, in both mine and Dan’s families.  After church, we went back home to my parents house for some pictures and Sunday dinner before heading back home to Reno.

San Francisco Zoo

DSC_8163-91

On Saturday my family decided to hit up the zoo in San Fran.  It had been awhile since a lot of us had been there.  We were just missing Ash and Spence!  Isn’t that little baby giraffe above adorable?
